The Secure Worker App: A Guide For Admins

The secure worker experience, how to test it, and how to help

Written by Lex Ituarte

Workers access Zipline through personal links that expire and verify the person opening them with a one-time code — so the most sensitive information your organisation holds stays protected, without workers needing accounts.

Here's how to work with worker links day to day.

Sending a worker their link

Workers automatically receive links via reminders and initial invites. In the rare event you need to re-send them a link, use Send message from the worker's application or profile. Zipline delivers a secure link directly to their mobile or email.

Links are always delivered this way — straight to the worker — because each one is personal to them. If a worker needs a new link, send another message, or they can tap Resend themselves from the expired link screen.

Helping a worker who's stuck

Open the worker's application or profile via the admin portal and choose Open in Help mode.

You'll see the same screens the worker sees, so you can guide them — using your own portal login, no verification code needed. The worker's most sensitive details stay protected.

There's never a need to ask a worker to forward their link — Help mode covers it.

Testing the worker experience (staging)

To run through a flow exactly as a worker would — for UAT, training material, or validating a new compliance setup:

Open any application or profile and choose Open in Test mode

You'll get the real worker experience with the verification code skipped, so you can test repeatedly without needing a test phone/email. Test Mode is available in staging only — in production, worker data is always fully protected.

Want to test the verification code itself? Use a worker record with contact details you control — the full flow runs in staging just as it does in production.

What workers experience

  • A personal link by SMS or email — it contains no personal details, and expires after a while (they tap Resend for a fresh one, progress saved)

  • A short verification code is used in certain cases, sent to the same place the link arrived

  • An extra code before viewing very sensitive details

Most workers are in within seconds. If one is having trouble, check the mobile and email on their record are current — that's where codes are delivered.

Common questions

How do I see what a worker sees in production? Help mode — it's built for exactly that, and it's audited as you rather than the worker.

A worker says their link expired. They can tap Resend on the expired link screen, or you can use Send message. Their progress is saved either way.

A worker isn't receiving codes. Codes only go to the contact details on their record. Update their mobile or email, then send a fresh message.

Can I get Test Mode in my staging environment? Ask Zipline Support or your Implementation Manager for help.
